Every winter, the discussion about the 'best' method for assessing avalanche risk begins again. Today, there are numerous strategies and approaches for evaluating avalanche conditions, all of which are effective in theory.
Yet when standing on an untouched slope in critical conditions, many still feel like the proverbial 'deer in the headlights'. The core focus of this course is to help you handle this situation with greater confidence.
While there have been no revolutionary advances in avalanche science in recent years, new insights emerge every season. Combined with over 30 years of ski touring experience, these refinements form the foundation of this intensive weekend course.
However, this course goes beyond avalanche assessment. We also cover:
- Orientation in alpine terrain
- Tour planning strategies
- Updates in avalanche transceivers (LVS)
- Efficient search techniques in avalanche rescue
A key element of the course is discussion at eye level with participants, which goes well beyond the basic 'reduction method'.
We will be based in a small, centrally located hotel with a restaurant, where we will be well looked after with excellent food. After a full day in the mountains, the cosy wellness area is the perfect place to relax.
