There are places in the mountains where you instantly feel welcome and at home. The Baita Caricc in the Val Viola Bormina valley is one such place, offering a truly special setting for a week of ski touring. This is partly because the mountains in this valley were difficult to access in winter until recently. It is only now, thanks to the beautifully located Baita Caricc, that they have become accessible for day tours.
The hut host, Enrico, and his daughters are passionate ski tourers themselves and know every hidden powder slope. This deep connection to the mountains is reflected in every detail of the alpine hut, which has been lovingly renovated and tastefully designed.
Excessive luxury would feel out of place here, yet the four charming multi-bed rooms with private bathrooms and wood-fired central heating create a surprisingly warm and comfortable atmosphere. Apart from the occasional day visitor who ventures up here in winter, the hut is exclusively ours. The food, rooted in traditional Alpine farming cuisine, rivals the often sterile offerings of high-end restaurants.
From the hut, the surrounding peaks radiate out in all directions, offering completely secluded and untouched ski tours of every aspect and level of difficulty. Once you arrive at Baita Caricc at 2,000 metres and settle into the peace, quiet and wintry charm, the long journey and final ascent quickly fade from memory.
Travel: From the north, take the Lower Engadin route to Livigno and continue for a further 20 km to Arnoga. From the east, take the Ofen Pass to Livigno.
Program:
Day 1: Meet at 15:00 in Arnoga at the starting point. Ascend to Baita Caricc in approximately 1.5 hours. Luggage will be transported by skidoo and passenger transport may also be possible.
Days 2–6: Five days of ski touring around Baita Caricc.
Day 7: Early breakfast, descent from the hut and departure.
Room allocation:
The hut can accommodate nine people (including the mountain guide) in three double rooms and one triple room, all with private bathrooms. The entire hut is reserved exclusively for our group, so it is ideal for a full group to enjoy the best possible experience in this unique setting.
