When a single ski touring destination inspires three different guidebooks from the same publisher, it's reasonable to conclude that it's something special. The longer you stay, the more you realise the region's immense potential. By the end of the week, you’ll be asking yourself why this place isn’t already overrun.
Around Briançon, a true paradise for ski tourers unfolds, offering endless possibilities in every direction and for all levels of difficulty. In poor weather, gentle larch forests filled with powder provide ideal conditions, and on clear days the panorama rewards you with magnificent views of the Dauphiné peaks. And for those seeking variety, the contrasting landscapes along the Italian border offer even more options.
Our base is the charming town of Briançon, whose historic old town is crowned by an impressive citadel. From here, the starting points of our tours are within 20 to 45 minutes' drive, whether in the Queyras, Val des Prés, Col du Lautaret or Pelvoux regions. This week, we will focus on moderate ascents of between 1,100 and 1,600 vertical metres, which is ideal for experiencing the area's full potential at a relaxed pace.
Briançon sits at 1,300 metres above sea level and exudes unmistakable French flair. Despite the longer journey and slightly higher prices, it remains something of a hidden gem among German-speaking ski tourers. This is all the better for us — after a day in the mountains, we can stroll through the old town, enjoy a coffee and look forward to an evening meal that has earned our hotel an excellent reputation, alongside its warm hospitality and lovingly designed rooms.
The diversity and quality of this touring area is reminiscent of the Aosta Valley — another region where we have had the pleasure of guiding many of our guests.
To make the journey more comfortable, we offer the option of travelling with the mountain guide in the GLOBO ALPIN bus from Franzensfeste.
