The Wild Trail Dolomites lives up to its name. This traverse leads on wild routes crisscrossing the Northern Dolomites — along long-abandoned paths, forgotten war trails, and at times completely pathless terrain as we cross our native Dolomite mountains.
The individual stages are further spiced up with airy abseil sections over steep walls, impressive overhangs, and natural rock windows.
Overnight stays take place in a variety of accommodations: starting in a charming, small rifugio with excellent Italian cuisine, continuing in simple mountain huts that nevertheless offer shelter, and finally on rustic alpine pastures where we sleep outdoors or in tents while being looked after by the alpine farmers.
Flexibility and the desire to discover the wildest and most hidden corners of the Dolomites are the best ingredients for making this week a success.
True climbing ability is not required for this traverse. However, some unpleasant scree sections cannot be avoided. There are also several short exposed ridge passages that require easy scrambling. The climbing difficulty will never exceed UIAA Grade II, and during the abseil sections the mountain guide will of course assist.
Independent and confident movement in pathless alpine terrain is essential in order to fully enjoy the stages.
With a maximum elevation gain of 1,300 vertical metres per day, these are solid day tours but do not require exceptional physical endurance.
