During this course, we learn all the essential basics of icefall climbing: correct handling of technical equipment, climbing and belaying techniques, as well as abseiling from Abalakov anchors and ice screws. Some experience with an ice axe and crampons is useful, but even those who have only climbed on rock or indoors can participate without any problem.

On the first day, we practice efficient, energy-saving climbing techniques in a designated ice climbing area (“ice crag”) and gradually increase the level of difficulty over the next days. Several frozen waterfalls are available for our training.

Our accommodation is a simple, strategically located guesthouse that spoils us with traditional South Tyrolean cuisine after each training day. The surrounding ice climbing areas offer perfect conditions to get familiar with the element of ice.

Program:
Fri: Morning meeting at our accommodation in Rein. Equipment check, then off to the ice.
Sat & Sun: Course days, return journey on Sunday evening.
