‘The air is clear and cold. In the glow of our headlamps, we begin our ascent, slowly moving away from the hut and deeper into the untouched world of the glaciers. The first rays of sunlight climb over the peaks, bathing the surrounding mountains in a warm, golden light. The silence of nature is overwhelming; only the soft crunch of our skis in the snow breaks the stillness...”
This could be how a day on the Monte Rosa ski traverse begins.
Skiing from hut to hut in high alpine terrain is the ultimate challenge in ski mountaineering. Spending several days in wild glacier landscapes, far from civilisation, has lost none of its appeal.
The Monte Rosa massif is renowned for its majestic mountains and stunning glacial landscapes, making it one of the most captivating high-altitude ski touring destinations in the Alps.
During this week, we will ascend several of the great 4,000-metre peaks of the Valais. On this traverse, you can climb seven to eight four-thousanders within a single week.
You will face a variety of challenges, including early starts, changing weather conditions, demanding terrain, walking with crampons and long ascents. The reward for these efforts is the chance to enjoy unforgettable descents through wild glacier landscapes, offering a sense of freedom and adventure that is often hard to find in civilisation.
