We have been heading to Abruzzo as a winter destination for over 25 years now. To this day, these ski tours remain truly unique — nowhere else have we experienced such a perfect combination of outstanding spring touring on the firn, authentic Italian cuisine and warm, Mediterranean hospitality as in the mountains just outside Rome.
This historic region is rich in cultural landmarks and has a way of capturing you completely with its welcoming people, clustered mountain villages and winter landscapes. After a successful week of touring in Abruzzo, it almost feels like a second home. The Majella and Gran Sasso massifs offer some of the most rewarding ski tours in the region.
Highlights include Monte Amaro and Gran Sasso, as well as lesser-known routes such as the Traversata della Provvidenza, the Canale Maiori and the hidden couloirs of the Majella. After a long day in the mountains, sitting with a glass of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo in the colourful evening light, looking out over the L’Aquila valley or towards Gran Sasso, you will truly begin to understand the unique charm of this region.
