This extended weekend's program includes two classic Austrian summit objectives: Grossglockner (3,798 m) and Grossvenediger (3,662 m). Both peaks have their own unique appeal. The ascent of the Grossvenediger is technically straightforward, making it a real pleasure. In contrast, the ascent of the Grossglockner requires some technical ability and a good head for heights due to its airy summit ridge. The reward is standing on Austria’s highest peak and one of the most beautiful summits in the Eastern Alps.

Program Overview

Thursday: Arrival and approach march to the Defreggerhaus mountain hut. Stay overnight there.

Friday: Attempt to reach the summit of the Grossvenediger, then spend the night at the Johannishütte.

Saturday: Transfer to another hut and climb to the Erzherzog Johann Hütte, also known as the "Adlersruhe," Austria's highest mountain refuge.

Sunday: Ascent of the Grossglockner, the highlight of the weekend. Then, descent and return home.

If weather conditions require it, the order of the ascents can be reversed.
