The southern Ortler group is one of the most impressive ski touring areas in the Eastern Alps, shaped by massive glaciers, wide, high-altitude plateaus and challenging peaks. Thanks to Rifugio Forni's location at over 2,100 metres in the heart of Stelvio National Park, the touring experience begins right on the doorstep, with no long approaches and the added convenience of being able to reach the hut by car.
Instead of a traditional dormitory-style hut, guests can enjoy cosy, well-run accommodation with a small sauna and an authentic Italian atmosphere, featuring simple yet functional rooms, excellent cuisine and warm hosts who welcome mountaineers. In spring, Rifugio Forni is an ideal base for challenging ski mountaineering tours around Monte Cevedale, Pallon della Mare, Monte Vioz and many other peaks.
Daily elevation gains range between 1,000 and 1,600 metres, depending on the chosen tour. Good fitness, confident skiing in off-piste terrain and experience with crampons and an ice axe are required — this is a challenging week designed for ambitious ski mountaineers.
The small group size (max. 5 participants) ensures an intensive mountain experience and personalised guidance.
The programme is led by mountain guide Emmanuel Rehmann, who knows the area intimately and selects the best tours based on the weather, snow conditions and the group.
