Some regions of the Alps feel almost forgotten: remote, quiet and vast. The north-easternmost corner of Piedmont, where Italy gently gives way to the Swiss mountains, is one such place.

Here, untouched tours to Monte Corbernàs, Sangiatto and the Grosses Schinhorn, Punta Bandiera with a detour to Punta Stange and Passo della Rossa awaken a true sense of exploration. It is precisely these small, personal discoveries that transform a place in the middle of nowhere into a fixed point on your inner map.

While the days are wild and clear, the evenings are calm and sheltered. In two small, very different houses — one higher up in the valley and the other deeper in the forest — we find warmth, good food and a lingering atmosphere.

Wooden walls, stone floors and a crackling fire. Perhaps a deer will pass by the window, or perhaps only the wind. After spending three nights here and three nights there, this 'somewhere', which once felt so far away, finally finds a permanent place within us.
